By means of traps baited with the synthetic sex pheromone, "disparlure", the distribution of Lymantria dispar and L. monacha in France was determined. In general L. dispar was found throughout the country even thongh larval infestations were not evident. L. monacha was more restricted in its distribution, possibly as a result of host plant and altitude relationships but it was widespread nevertheless.
